Today in idiotic controversies: FOX host Neil Cavuto noted to his guest Dion Baia that “some people” have been taking issue with Wonder Woman’s lack of patriotism — namely, that her costume color scheme is too un-American.
“Some are calling it less American, Dion, because, well, her outfit isn’t red, white, and blue, and, in order to appeal for foreign audiences, very little reference to America at all,” said the “Your World With Neil Cavuto” host.
“I think, nowadays, sadly, money trumps patriotism,” Baia replied. “Especially, recently, I personally feel like we’re not really very patriotic, the country, in a certain sense. And they want these movies to succeed internationally, you know, so they’re going to dial back.”
Fellow guest Mike Gunzelman lamented that he feels “it’s cool to hate America these days.”
Are you kidding me?
Let’s glide by the obvious facts that one: She’s not a real person and two: This not-real character is from the not-real island nation of Thermyscira. So: NOT AMERICAN. But she does help the Americans fight against the Germans in World War I. Which is pretty damn patriotic. And while her updated new suit lacks the little white stars that her ’70s predecessor had (see below), it still has a golden eagle on her chest which reads as American to me.
What goes on over at FOX that they thought his was worth making an issue out of? I mean, really. (via HuffPo)
