T.J. House, former Major League ball player came out as gay.
In a Facebook post, that was an engagement announcement as well, House called his partner, Ryan Neitzel,
a wonderful fiance, who challenges me daily to become a better person. To live life authentically. One who I never deserved but blessed to have.
Love you see, it’s for everyone.”
The former pitcher for Cleveland and the Toronto Blue Jays said in his post that at 23 he was given the opportunity to live out his
childhood dream playing professional baseball in Cleveland.”
But he said that he relied on his career as a “drug” to numb
what was really going on inside.”
House said he
loved every moment… [d]eep down I wanted something more, I wanted to be loved not for what I did, but who I was.”
Citing the recent passage of the Respect for Marriage Act, House said “shame” had kept him in the closet, but that,
love has finally set me free.”
House is just the third ex-MLB player to come out as gay in forty years, after, LA Dodgers alum Glenn Burke in ’82, and Billy Bean, in ’99.
