If someone had told me that I would willingly be leaving the comfortable cool ocean breezes on Fire Island to venture back into the city during a 106-degree heat wave, I would have said they had a screw loose. But some things you just don’t say no to. My partner’s floral design firm got tapped to create a bouquet to be presented to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as she opened the British Memorial Garden during her visit to New York City on Tuesday. Robert created a beautiful bouquet of 67 white roses collared by variegated Hostas leaves to commemorate the 67 British victims of the 9/11 terrorist attack on the Twin Towers (I assisted by French-braiding a white ribbon cover of the rose stems). With the extreme heat we were a bit concerned that the flowers might not hold up. We delivered them and held our breath and then got word last night that the flowers looked great and everything went splendidly.
