Madonna’s 1998 album Ray of Light just turned 25.
One of the best-selling records of all time (16+ million) Ray is most transformative in Madonna’s constant cycle of reinvention.
She started the production with Babyface and the album eventually took four months to record, the longest the artist had spent in the studio working on one album up to that point.
Manager Guy Oseary introduced her to a producer and songwriter, the relatively unknown British producer, William Orbit and the collaboration produced a new style for Madge, one that felt fresh and very of the moment.
The Middle Eastern influences run throughout the album. Ray of Light launched four singles, arguably the best of which was Frozen. The now iconic video was directed by Chris Cunningham.
