Issa Rae, Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi, and Lorena Jorge lend their voices to Young Love, a new series about millennial Chicago parents and their beautifully tressed child Angel.

Both the short and the series were created by Matthew A. Cherry. Via the New York Times:
“Hair Love” is a sweet and joyful story about an African-American father learning to style his daughter’s natural hair in his wife’s absence. The film uses words sparingly; the characters’ gestures and expressions take viewers through the father’s commonplace but poignant endeavor.
One of the film’s messages — embracing and loving your natural hair — was transported to the ceremony itself on Sunday. The actress Gabrielle Union and the former N.B.A. champion Dwyane Wade, married producers of “Hair Love,” invited to the ceremony a black high school student in Texas who was suspended because of the way he wore his dreadlocks.
The issue of hair remains a political in many schools and workplaces. At the 2020 Oscars, Union and Wade invited student DeAndre Arnold, who had recently been suspended from school for dreadlocks that did not meet school policy.
The series expands on the world of the short, with the landlord, neighbors, and other relatives. And mom is back in the groove doing hair again.
