Todd Haynes’ new doc The Velvet Underground just premiered out of competition at Cannes.
This is a top-level appreciation of a band that was as much a part of the culture of 60s NYC as Warhol’s Factory, the creative hub with which it is forever linked.
Certain to be one of the standout music docs of the year, the trailer hints at the pastiche of Haynes’ Velvet Goldmine and his quirky Bob Dylan bio-drama I’m Not There, but it’s the real deal.
The Velvet Underground will be released in theaters and on Apple TV+ October 15.
