The world premiere of the House of Cardin, the feature documentary on the life and design of legendary icon Pierre Cardin, at the Venice Film Festival got a standing O! Now it’s coming to New York for a premiere at DOC NYC.
House of Cardin is directed by the the married filmmaking duo of P. David Ebersole and Todd Hughes. This is the fifth documentary for the award-winningteam who are known for their colorful approach to their subjects –Cher‘s Mom to Courtney Love‘s drummer to people obsessed with The Shining to Jayne Mansfield’s satanic episode, they all entertain, inform and delight.
For their latest, House of Cardin, they assembled a global, glam cast of characters to speak on everything from Cardin’s career and worldwide influence to his famously private life. The film stars Jean Paul Gaultier, Philippe Starck, Sharon Stone, Naomi Campbell, Alice Cooper, Jenny Shimizu, and more.

“Millions know the iconic logo and ubiquitous signature but few know the man behind the larger than life label. Ultimately, the film seeks to answer the question:
Who is Pierre Cardin?
What is the story behind this legendary icon? ‘House of Cardin’ is a rare peek into the mind of a genius, an authorized feature documentary chronicling the life and design of Pierre Cardin.
A true original, Mr. Cardin has granted the directors exclusive access to his archives and his empire and unprecedented interviews at the sunset of a glorious career.”
As is their style, the story unfolds as a kind of oral history and they rely on forging close relationships with their subjects in the few hours they get to spend together.
House of Cardin will play at DOC NYC on November 9. You can get tickets here.
