Rory Culkin surprised viewers of the Swarm premiere episode with the ol’ twig and berries, in the form of his junk pressed against a glass bowl of strawberries. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!
Show co-creator Janine Nabers said the scene was based on a hookup story co-creator Donald Glover told her. Via Insider:
“Donald told this very funny story about a girl who he really liked, and how after they hooked up, he was standing there with a bowl of cherries, just being like, ‘Hey.’ She was like, so not into it, because it’s so weird to hook up with a guy that you barely know and then wake up with him holding a bowl of cherries.

Nabers told Glover she was stealing that, and she ran with it with his blessing.
“I’m a Black woman, so any ankle into this story was always gonna be rooted in that. There’s a lot of different things that we set out to look at in terms of just, like, online stan culture and stuff, but that is very much a backdrop to what this story is. This story at the end of the day is really about Dre and her relationship with her sister [played by Chloe Bailey], and how this pilot becomes the origin story of a villain.”
The new Amazon thriller follows Dre (Dominique Fishback), a young woman whose obsession with a pop star leads her down a dangerous path. The show reflects elements of die-heard stan culture, like Beyoncé’s Beyhive or Taylor Swift’s Swifties. The pop superstar Ni’Jah (Nirine S. Brown) has a fandom called the Swarm.
