Kathy Bates is Madeline Matlock in a reboot of the classic series Matlock starring Andy Griffith.
Nearly 30 years after the original series ended (which she refers to in the trailer), Matty
rejoins the work force at a prestigious law firm where she uses her unassuming demeanor and wily tactics to win cases and expose corruption from within.”
That unpretentious exterior pays off for Matty, because old ladies are “damn near invisible,” allowing her to move through the world unnoticed as she gathers up valuable clues and intel.
Via Collider:
Bates’s Matlock may be a bit different from her folksy down-home super sleuth predecessor, but the new series still takes plenty of inspiration from the Griffith-led show.
The trailer even acknowledges the existence of Ben Matlock as a famous television detective, firmly setting these two in separate worlds but with an undeniable connection.
Bates already seems capable of capturing that same charm, cracking jokes and playing to her strengths in a way that quickly endears her to her colleagues on-screen.
Time to call or text a beloved elder relative or over-60 friend and let them know! They will be glad to hear from you.
Matlock will air on Sundays on CBS once they get a few more episodes in the can.
Watch.
