Netflix released a tantalizing Harry & Meghan teaser, which just happens to coincide with another racial controversy at Buckingham Palace as well as Prince William and Princess Catherine’s visit to the United States.
Meghan, Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex have recently revealed serious and credible threats before leaving the United Kingdom for America. According to former Met Police head of counterterrorism Neil Basu, the threats were “disgusting and very real.” Via Sky News:
Asked in an interview with Channel 4 if the threats were credible, the police chief, who is retiring today after 30 years in the force, said: “Absolutely, and if you had seen the stuff that was written and you were receiving it… that kind of rhetoric that is online.
“If you don’t know what I know, you would feel under threat all the time.”
Asked if there had been a genuine threat to Meghan’s life on more than one occasion, Mr Basu, who was until recently the force’s assistant commissioner of specialist operations, said: “We had teams investigating it and people have been prosecuted for those threats.”
Also this week, Queen Elizabeth confidante and lady-in waiting Lady Susan Hussey resigned following a racially insensitive interaction with British anti-violence activist Ngozi Fulani while Fulani was visiting Buckingham Palace on invitation from Queen Consort Camilla. Via New York Times:
Ms. Fulani, who is Black and was born in Britain, documented the exchange with the staff member, whom she identified as “Lady SH,” on Twitter. The encounter, in which the employee seemed unwilling to believe Ms. Fulani was British, rattled her, she said. And it left her with “mixed feelings” about the gathering, which was dedicated to raising awareness about violence against women and girls, showcasing Camilla’s involvement in this cause.
“The rest of the event is a blur,” wrote Ms. Fulani, who runs a charitable group, Sistah Space, that helps women of African and Caribbean descent who are victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse.
Many in the press speculate that Hussey, who is Prince William’s godmother, may have been one of the people involved in coaching Meghan once she joined the Firm. The plot thickens!
