After decades of speculation and – let’s face it – seriously flagging interest, the subject of Carly Simon’s 1973 hit “You’re So Vain” (or, as it would be spelled these days, “Your So Vain”) has been revealed – by the self-absorbed one himself. It was long suspected the scoundrel was Mick Jagger, even though he sang backup on the song (a clever scent thrower-offer), but played-out playboy Warren Beatty has just confessed it is he who had one eye in the mirror while he watched himself gavotte. “Let’s be honest,” he says. “That song is about me.” Mystery solved? We’re not buying it until we hear it from Simon herself or from NBC bigwig Dick Ebersol, who paid $50,000 at auction in 2003 to learn who it was who gave Simon clouds in her coffee.
