Social media was in an uproar when wowlebrity Fantasia Barrino announced that she’d be headlining an “All Lives Matter” concert in her hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina. “All Lives Matter,” as many point out, is often used to argue against any mention of “Black Lives Matter.”
Most people who cling to the ALM statement are offended by the notion of black people asserting that their lives matter too. Hence why it’s problematic for a prominent R&B performer to not get any of the aforementioned.
Fantasia is having none of that, though. In a Facebook video, she and her husband Kendall Taylor tackle the backlash. She says:
“Two thousand years ago, Jesus ended the debate on which lives matter. He died for all of us. All of us. Martin Luther King stood for love and unity for all people. United we stand, divided we fall. Let’s all stand TOGETHER. Together. So black lives matter, yes they do. All lives matter. My grandson is biracial. My nieces and nephews are biracial. Do their lives not matter?”
Listen to her argument below.
Meanwhile, the concert, which was to happen yesterday, has been postponed until next week for unknown reasons. (via The Grapejuice; Photo: Pacific Coast News)
