The seasons have just changed and as we shift into fall why not a far-out shift? Ensemble ’70s movies seem to be in style this autumn. Which film is best and which is best-dressed? Here are three I’m looking forward to: American Hustle is about a con artist and his partner in crime who were forced to work with a federal agent to turn the tables on other cons, mobsters, and politicians – namely, the volatile mayor of impoverished Camden, New Jersey. Directed by David O. Russell, with Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Renner, Jack Huston, Louis CK, Robert Deniro, and Jennifer Lawrence. Rush is a biographical action film directed by Ron Howard about the 1976 Formula One season and the rivalry between drivers James Hunt and Niki Lauda, with Chris Hemsworth as Hunt and Daniel Brühl as Lauda. Babes in pimp hats, included. Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues finds Ron Burgundy returning to take New York’s first 24-hour news channel by storm, directed by Adam McKay, with Will Ferrell, Christina Applegate, Steve Carell, David Koechner, and Paul Rudd, with cameos by half of Hollywood, including Jim Carrey, Nicole Kidman, Harrison Ford, Liam Neeson, and Kanye West. OK, so sue me, this actually takes place in the ’80s, but the early ’80s still had some pretty funky, bitchin’ looks.
