Sarah Burton continues to astonish at Alexander McQueen. From the Daily Mail: “The inspiration behind the frothy, fantastical designs for the autumn/winter 2012 collection was said to be the ‘rippling underbellies of mushrooms’ – and the costumes certainly echoed the organic life of a damp wood, teeming with life. Layer upon layer of tulle took to the catwalk alongside dresses that were so voluminous they appeared, from the front, to look like rich blooms, punctuated with a pollen-like eye of an over-sized theatrical silver belt buckle. Dresses quivered as they moved down the catwalk, staunchly unfussy platinum hair-dos and futuristic visors focusing attention on the soft, layered activity below the neckline. The busy growth of fungus and plants was again echoed in the energetic bursts of life that were afforded by fuzzy fur details on wrists, concertinaed dress hems, playful, nymph-like flared sleeves, embroidered, lace-like patterns and fabrics that seemed to be sprouting with tiny shoots.”
