Bertolt Brecht wrote his first full-length play, Baal, in 1918, when he was a 20-year-old university student. The play, a nightmarish drama about a decadent poet-musician seeking inspiration through sex and drugs, has been turned into a modern production set in the 1990s and titled Clive. The new, amusingly noirish production, performed by a company called The New Group, just opened to good reviews off-Broadway. It’s directed by and starring Ethan Hawke. And we say all this purely as an excuse to post this photo of him. (via HuffPo)
