There was free pizza for everyone at lunch yesterday at World of Wonder, an occasional occasion we live for here – boxes and boxes of pies piled high in the 4th-floor kitchen. This time, the pies were to celebrate the fact that everybody loves Eduardo Magana, WOW’s unarguably nicest, humblest, most longest continuous employee. Ten years. After a round of applause, he expressed his thanks for the hoohah, related some work-related anecdotes, then was given a waterfall wall hanging, don’t ask, and a few stammering words of appreciation from an uncharacteristically “unaccustomed as I am to public speaking” Fenton Bailey. Later, Justin Hrobuchak prepared a clip reel of the projects Ed has been involved with over the years. (Watch the video)
Later still, Fenton and Randy sent this message:
Yesterday, Ed Magano claimed the first “10 Years Award,” having joined WOW on June 1st 1995. Ed made a very touching speech only to have to endure a sustained awkward moment thanks to us having failed to prepare anything special to say. It’s no excuse, but it was hard to remember back in the day when Ed joined. There were no iPods, no Google, and cell phones were still shoe-size. We had just moved to our first LA real office, located where the trendy Ammo restaurant serves Hollywood’s hot shots their power kibble. But Ed deserves better than these scattered memories. He has worked tirelessly and, in his calm and unflappable style, solved countless crises, always remaining friendly and fun no matter how dark the outlook or late the hour. He has been our go-to guy for a decade, and without him we wonder what World of Wonder would be today. And, to top it all, he looks good too – younger today than he did back then. Thank you, Ed.
