On Sunday, the Downton Abbey star won her third Emmy for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her work as the Dowager Countess. It was her fifth nomination for this role overall —but, as host Jimmy Kimmel pointed out, the perennial nominee/winner never shows up.
Kimmel joked that if she wanted her award she would have to show up to the ceremony to get it. Smith ended up winning (again), Kimmel went to take the statuette and said,
“We’re not mailing this to her. Maggie, if you want this it will be in the lost and found.”
In a message posted on Downton Abbey’s Twitter, Smith responded,
“I was very astonished and pleased to win the award. I feel the Emmys have been overly generous to me. If Mr. Kimmel could please direct me to the lost and found office I will try and be on the next flight. Love, Old Maggie.”
Dowager Countess, out.
