In a ceremony today, Gale Norton*, the Secretary for the Department of the Interior (protecting park, landmarks, and wildlife), named Elvis Presley’s Memphis home, Graceland (above), as a National Historic Landmark. It joins a rather impressive list which includes The White House (top left), the Alamo (top right), and Pearl Harbor. Gale’s resigning from her post after coming under fire for some of her positions. And what are some of her positions on protecting the nation’s parks, landmarks, and wildlife? Let’s just say if Lisa Marie struck oil in Elvis Presley’s front yard tomorrow, good old Gale would probably be kicking herself.
