After living and performing in New York for six decades, musical theater icon/legend/Jack’s mom on 30 Rock Elaine Stritch is retiring from showbiz to go back home to Detroit (she explained, “I’m going to be taking it easy…every time I leave the building, I fall on my ass”). Last night was the first date of her farewell tour of sorts, “Elaine Stritch at the Carlyle: Movin’ Over and Out” (which runs through April 6), and the stars came out to celebrate her big opening. I got a chance to see her in L.A. last year when she performed at the Disney Concert Hall, and even with her back turned to me (I had bad seats), it was fag heaven. Her rendition of “I Feel Pretty” from West Side Story alone was worth the price of admission. Miss you already. Love you forever.
