Today is Todd Hughes & P David Ebersole Day on The WOW Report… with not one, two or three but 4 posts!
It’s a bit of a long story how Todd & David hosted a party for my “return” to Merida last Sunday, but here goes…
I’ve been coming to Merida for the past 5 years or or so. the last two years I’ve been building a house in the neighborhood of Jesus Carranza and I’ve written about it here multiple times.
Partners in life and in filmmaking, Todd, David and I met a decade or so ago when they shot me for an Ann Magnuson documentary (never completed) at the recommendation of my ex Roswell Hamrick‘s now partner, John Pizzolato. (Together they own the Stickett Inn in Upstate New York along with the newly opened Barryville Oasis.)

Todd, David & I remained in touch and they started followed my posts about Merida and we started to talk more about the city. They decided to come here last January where I put them in touch with my friend, realtor Ross Schiering who showed them around town.
Over 15 years ago my old friend John Powell and his partner in Urbano Rentals Josh Ramos, redid this house in Centro that Todd & David fell in love with.
They have since sold their Palm Spring place, shipped everything here and done some fix-ups including a VERY glam closet/dressing room I’m posing in below using my architect Erik Gonzales.
My friend, textile designer Judy Ross, was in town for her birthday and it was fitting as she introduced me to Merida and half the people who are in these pictures, including designer Laura Kirar and husband Richard Frazier, master baker Robert Wilson and artist David Serrano, and on and on.
Photographer Nestor Herrera shot the whole affair, which was between 75-100 people (estimates vary) I just shot a few pics before the party.
My old friends, photographers Theo & Juliet, came from LA via Cancun just in time for the party & they shot me in the closet (ironic?) The place is huge and fab & even though it rained throughout we were all in the rooms and loggia’s facing outdoors.
Merida pals, old and new. I couldn’t have been be happier.
You can see more pictures of they newly christened Casita Galore in my #RealEstatePorn post and two other post on Todd Hughes’ book Lunch with Lizabeth on film noir queen Lizabeth Scott, P David Ebersole’s thriller novel, 99 Miles from LA, as well as a post on their award-winning documentary films that includes Manfield 66/67. (Casita Galore is on Calle 66, between 67 and 69, btw…)
They also have a record album, but I was sure you’d never believe me if I included that too!
