Trans TikTok phenom Dylan Mulvaney has been documenting her gender transition for 365 days, culminating in a live celebration and a visit with Drew Barrymore. So much positivity!
Naturally, conservatives and fascists are losing their minds about the whole thing, but that won’t stop either of them. Via Vanity Fair:
Barrymore and Mulvaney also shared their strategies for dealing with criticism. At one point, the host and guest even shifted their conversation from chairs to the ground because—in Barrymore’s words—“the floor always feels safer.” The actress said that she was first introduced to film reviews with her movie E.T. in 1982. “I felt like all these reviews—and it could be a Charlie’s Angels, it could be E.T., it could be The Wedding Singer, everything in-between—if you read reviews, just like on social media, you are pretty much guaranteed a fifty-fifty some like it, some don’t,” Barrymore explained. “So you’ve gotta be willing to bare down and brace for it.”
Mulvaney told Barrymore:
“I think the greatest weapon that I can contribute is trans joy, and comedy, and talking about hard subjects and really intricate moments of a transition, and try to let everyone see that I’m not a monster. I’m not somebody that is trying to do anything but be myself and be happy.”
Mulvaney also transformed the famed Rainbow Room at Rockefeller Center into a theater for a live celebration of her milestone:
Congrats to Dylan, and thank you to Drew for modeling thoughtfulness and positivity!
