NBA star Dwyane Wade and his wife, actress Gabrielle Union, continue to lead by example as the amazing parents of a gender diverse 12-year-old child. Dwyane told Ellen DeGeneres about the importance of unconditional love as he described all the ways they support their daughter Zaya since she made a social transition.
In the uplifting conversation, Dwyane says,
We are proud parents of a child in the LGBTQ+ community, and we are proud allies as well. We take our roles and our responsibilities as parents very seriously. So when our child comes home with a question, when my child comes home with an issue, when my child comes home with anything, it’s our job as parents to to listen to that, give them the best information that we can, the best feedback that we can, and that doesn’t change because sexuality is now involved in it.
Dwyane added that in addition to embracing Zaya’s new name and pronouns, Gabrielle reached out the the entire cast of POSE, and they continue to look for the best information to help their child be her best self.
Dwyane also talked about the shocking loss of his friend Kobe Bryant. What a great friend and a great family!
