Playwright and cult drag performer, Charles Busch, is bringing the Queen of the Nile to the shores of Manhattan this Spring. Known for his satires of vintage Hollywood, Busch will add his own version to those of Sarah Bernhardt, Tallulah Bankhead, Claudette Colbert, Vivien Leigh and Liz Taylor. In early ’80s Busch brought Vampire Lesbians of Sodom to the stage, the 60s satire Psycho Beach Party, and Die, Mommie, Die!, the later two of which were adapted into films. (Watch the Die, Mommie Die! trailer below.) In The Divine Sister, and Judith of Bethulia, he spoofed religion in film.
Busch’s regular collaborator Carl Andress is directing this limited engagement for 22 performances only at Theater for the New City on the Lower East Side, March 25 through April 17 and tickets are just $25. Find out more here.
The creative team for Charles Busch’s CLEOPATRA includes: Scenic and Graphic Design by B.T. Whitehill, Costume Design by Jessica Jahn, Lighting Design by Zach Blane, Sound Design by Bart Fasbender, and Wig Design by Katherine Carr. Additional casting will be announced in the coming weeks.
