Yes, I was at RuPaul’s DragConNYC, last Friday afternoon, which for DragCon, was a low-key mob scene. It was pouring rain out, and that calmed things down a bit. I got a chance to chat with WOW co-founders, Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato, although they didn’t let it slip they were announcing RuPaul’sDragCon UK as well as RuPaul’s Drag Race Live! in Vegas. Hey, I work for the company, I could use a head’s up –but it was a well-kept secret that’s out.
I got a chance to catch up with old pal and co-blogger, James St. James at his booth and I ran into Drag author Frank DeCaro (and his bf, Jim) although I didn’t manage to snag a book as his signing was the next day. Damn! (He promised to send me one…)
I did see and hear another old pal, Simon Doonan, who also has a new book on drag, on RuPaul’s Drag Race Official Podcast live, moderated by the charming (& handsome!) John Polly.
Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren wasn’t there in person but her booth sure stood out with LGBTQ power. Hey Mayor Pete, you dropped the ball –DragCon is ESSENTIAL!
Photographer, curator and my friend, Ruben Natal-San Miguel was also there snapping away for three days. Here’s some of your fave RDR queens in their natural habitat –being fan-girled, fawned-over and Instagrammed into next Tuesday.
If I need to caption these queens, then you’re not a REAL Drag Race fan then, are you?
