Last night RuPaul tweeted about the emergency leak that the water tank featured in the premiere episode of Drag Race sprung. Here’s another lil’ behind-the-queens tid-bit from that same photo shoot. We were very anxious that with 14 drag queens dunking into the same water, their makeup might wash off and the last few girls would be swimming in a murky discolored tank of drag soup. As the tank had to be professionally emptied and took 12 hours to fill, changing the water mid-shoot was not an option. So Mathu Andersen did a test shoot by painting our (very sporting) associate challenge producer Rich Brusa’s face in drag, and then sealing it with a spray-on adhesive. We stuck Rich in a frock and heels (for maximum authenticity), pushed him in the tank, and the resulting photo ensued. Mathu’s sealant saved the day, Drag Soup was avoided, and Rich got a new Facebook profile picture.
