The damage control over the degrading Obama administration brief in defense of DOMA continued at the American Constitution Society’s Center for American Progress event. Much to the chagrin of the White House staffers, a large applause erupted when they were questioned about Obama’s inaction on LGBT equality. White House Staff Secretary, Lisa Brown, defended the brief by saying it actually could have been worse! Which leads one to wonder what could be worse than comparing gay marriages to incest and pedophiles? Ron Klain, Vice President Biden’s Chief of Staff, seemed able to add little else to her statement, other than to continue the standard refrain to be patient. I’ve often wondered how patient heterosexuals would be if the shoe was on the other foot. How long would they remain patient if their rights were taken away? Would they remain patient for a month if they were told their marriages are no longer considered valid by the government? Would they remain patient for a week if they were barred from even visiting their husband or wife in the hospital? Would they keep patient for even a day if heterosexual widows were denied social security benefits?
