Paris and headlines are like death and taxes. Very early this morning, after allegedly being up for 24 hours, making a music video, attending a charity event, not eating, being exhausted, and drinking a cocktail, poor thing, the heiress was stopped by police in Hollywood for “suspicion” of driving under the influence, then taken to the police station with passenger Kimberly Stewart and booked. Reports from the LAPD are that she was given no special treatment, but her mug shot will not be released, she was let go after 90 minutes instead of the required three hours it takes to obtain the highest possible blood-alcohol level, she was not thrown into a cell to “sleep it off,” there has been no mention of handcuffs, her Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren was not impounded, and she may have actually driven herself home. As a former DUI miscreant, who went through the Kafkaesque system of jail, court, license suspension, AA meetings, alcohol classes, grueling community service, and probation, we are outraged. Update, hours later: OK, it seems her McLaren was in fact towed, if video footage is anything to go by, and she didn’t drive herself home, but all the rest is true, no matter how Elliot Mintz spins it.
