Yesterday, of course, former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was declared guilty in the murder of George Floyd. As the verdict was read, he looked wildly around the courtroom as if he couldn’t believe what he was hearing. A policeman?! Found guilty?! UNHEARD OF! But here we are...
He faces up to 40 years in prison for second-degree unintentional murder, up to 25 years for third-degree murder, and up to 10 years for second-degree manslaughter.
His bond was immediately revoked, he was handcuffed, and transferred to to Oak Park Heights, 25 miles east of Minneapolis, on the border with Wisconsin, the state’s only Level 5 maximum-security prison which is considered the safest for high-risk offenders.
He is currently on suicide watch, being closely monitored at all times to ensure his safety. Guards are also reportedly keeping a close eye on him to protect him from potential threats of violence from other inmates because of his law enforcement background.
Of course, he’ll probably not spend much time in General Population, and I imagine most prison guards are probably pro-police, pro-Trump, and (I’m guessing) pro-Derek Chauvin… Just saying’.
