If November & December are Oscar-bait, then January & February are where movies go to die. Not a good sign for David O. Russell‘s long-shelved political satire Nailed. Nevertheless it’ll be released theatrically as Accidental Love on February 20, 10 days AFTER it is available on VOD. The movie, which no longer has Russell’s name on it, is credited to director Stephen Greene. Production began filming in 2008 and was eventually shelved in 2010, after production was stopped several times due to the production budget being frozen. Kristin Gore, the daughter of Al Gore, wrote the screenplay. It’s about an uninsured waitress, Jessica Biel, who suffers a brain injury after a nail is lodged in her head. Jake Gyllenhaal plays a sleazy politician who she teams up with. I love Russell’s films and I hope, even though his name is removed, it still bears his trademark wit, frenetic energy and biting satire. From the looks of this trailer, it does. Nailed it!
