As he walks out in a slick suit to Kanye West’s Power, Trevor Noah assumes the position behind the desk Jon Stewart made famous. West’s refrain;
“No one man should have all that power
The clock’s ticking, I just count the hours
Stop tripping, I’m tripping off the power
Till then, fuck that, the world’s ours”
…this repeats the question that’s been hounding him ever since Comedy Central announced Stewart’s replacement. His first move? A cheeky nod (literally) to the social-media controversy that swirled around his selection. I won’t spoil the punch line here but the spot finishes with a squeaky lowering of the chair, a reference to the height disparity between old host and new. We’ll find out what kind of host he is and The Daily Show will look like when Noah officially assumes hisduties on September 28. Not a bad start though.
