You may laugh at this idea from Rhino Records (didn’t Rhino just have an “everything must go” sale?), to have celebrities record classic pop songs in a collection called Unexpected Dreams: Songs from the Stars. But it’s kinda genius. More like expected nightmares. We say this, of course, without actually hearing anything off the disc. But we don’t have to, because most of the cult-at-best celebrities on it are vocally challenged and most of their selections are substandard examples of the songwriters’ craft. Dreams includes John Stamos singing Billy Joel, Jennifer Garner crooning Gershwin, Eric McCormack (he’s not gay, he’s married) doing Elton John, and Teri Hatcher and Nia Vardalos both attempting the Beatles. Perfect as a conversation starter at a dinner party.
