Lane Garrison’s lawyer Harland Braun claims his client has no memory of Saturday’s accident when his Land Rover crossed a median in Beverly Hills and crashed into a tree, killing a 17-year-old passenger and injuring two 15-year-olds also in the car. Allegedly he was knocked out at impact and regained consciousness at the hospital. But TMZ reports this is what happened – at least, as Braun tells it:
Garrison had never met the three teenagers before the night of the accident. Garrison had been at a local supermarket earlier in the evening when the teens recognized him in the checkout line and asked him if he wanted to go to a party. Garrison went to the party and had one drink. Braun says Garrison also had one margarita at a Mexican restaurant that night, but that was the extent of his drinking. As Garrison was leaving the party to meet a woman at his apartment, the three teens asked to go with him.
So far, so almost plausible, but here’s where the lawyer lays groundwork for the defense. Braun says he doubts that his client was drunk. (Blood taken from Garrison at the hospital will not provide results for weeks.) “Who knows if someone put something in his drink at the party,” he says. And Garrison supposedly has receipts from his mechanic showing that the vehicle had been pulling to one side due to an alignment problem and that the brakes weren’t operating properly. The accident, says Braun, “is a mystery.” But we’re wondering why Garrison would invite three youngsters to his apartment if he was meeting a woman there. Perhaps Braun will say it was the actor’s mother.
