Following Jamie Brewer’s history-making moment at NYFW last year, when she became the first-ever Down syndrome model to walk during fashion week, the gorgeous Madeline Stuart is breaking down even more barriers in the fashion community.
The 18-year-old Brisbane-based aspiring model with genetic chromosomal disorder Down syndrome has booked two gigs with major companies this week. The first is with American fitness-wear manufacturer Manifesta, a brand which promotes inclusiveness and creates exercise clothing for women of all shapes and sizes. The company released this statement on their Tumblr: “Just as Madeline is committed to expanding people’s ideas of what a model can be, Manifesta is determined to show that the clothing and fashion industry doesn’t have to be exclusionary.”
Madeline will also represent everMaya, a lifestyle brand which says they are proud to have a spokeswoman of Madeline’s integrity to represent its core values. The brand claims via their blog, “She is an inspiration to us all, and we are so very fortunate to have her as part of the everMaya team!”
Says TODAY presenter Sylvia Jeffreys, who accompanied Madeline on her first big shoot for clothing brand Living Dead: “She’s really redefining beauty and people are stopping and thinking twice about what is beauty and what should be in front of the camera. And she deserves to be in front of the camera.”
