Saturday Night Live has a longstanding tradition of sending up politicians back to Chevy Chase‘s Gerald Ford. Of late we’ve gotten, Melissa McCarthy‘s Sean Spicer, Kate McKinnon doing Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Kellyanne Conway of course, Alec Baldwin‘s Trump.
Anthony Atamanuik has performed done his own perfect Trump for years and now, he’s getting his own Comedy Central starting in April. He’s been on @midnight as Trump a few times and he just finished a 40-city comedy tour of Trump v Bernie with fellow comic James Adomian. (Get a taste below) He’s also a fave at the Upright Citizens Brigade improv theatre.
“Laughing at the president is a proud American tradition and we hope not to disappoint anyone in that department. But our political system is too broken for us to be content joking about one man, even though he is a disastrous silly little toddler boy. Mostly I’d just like to thank Comedy Central for giving us this platform to speak truth to power and if we’re lucky, we’ll end up in prison.”
As for the real Trump himself? Atamanuik says the best criticisim he could get would to be thrown in jail.
It’s called The President Show, it’ll feature elements of a regular talk show, as well as a Pence impression by Peter Grosz. It airs on Comedy Central starting April 27.
Watch.
