Last week, we learned that The Fresh Prince of Bel Air was being rebooted as a drama, which is headscratchingly odd, but then again, its 2020 and nothing surprises us anymore. Now comes word that Clueless will back on the small screen as (*checks notes*) a comedy/mystery, with the focus centered on the character of Dionne.
Variety‘s description is a doozy:
The untitled comedy series is described as a baby pink and bisexual blue-tinted, tiny sun-glasses wearing, oat milk latte and Adderall-fueled look at what happens when queen bee Cher disappears and her lifelong number two Dionne steps into Cher’s vacant Air Jordans. How does Dionne deal with the pressures of being the new most popular girl in school, while also unraveling the mystery of what happened to her best friend?
That’s a helluva pitch. Grown-ish meets Veronica Mars? The OC meets black Nancy Drew? I’m a little stuck on “bisexual blue” and Cher wearing Air Jordans… but let’s move on.
It plans to air on Peacock, no word yet as to when. The original 1995 film spawned the TV comedy series in 1996 which ran for three seasons.
