The Yale a capella group, The Baker’s Dozen, was jumped after a New Year’s Eve performance in a dangerous upscale San Francisco neighborhood. The all-male group was singing “The Star Spangled Banner” when homophobic slurs and threats were shouted at them. It was when the members of the Dozen were leaving that a van full of youths physically attacked them. The son of a prominent San Francisco family called his “boyz” to rectify the situation, precipitating an all-out brawl. Several members of the group sustained serious injuries including concussions and a broken jaw, with one boy being rushed to the hospital for emergency reconstructive surgery. The suspects were detained, but released without being charged. (Source)
