A watchdog group reports that the Chinese knitting factory used by Ivanka Trump’s brand has very poor conditions and pay, employees work up to 60 hours a week for wages of about $62 weekly.
The Washington Post reports that the Fair Labor Association found the factory violated two dozen standards set by the U.N. International Labor Organization,
The new audit investigated an 80-worker factory under contract by G-III Apparel Group, the manufacturing partner that Ivanka Trump’s brand is licensed to and inspectors spent two days touring the facility in October. They determined that workers experienced high turnover, pay at or below China’s minimum wage, and excessive work hours.
They did not get legally mandated pension, medical, or housing benefits, and received only five days of paid leave per year. The average manufacturing jobs in that area paid workers about twice as much as the jobs that Trump’s fashion company did.
Clothes from the Trump brand are primarily produced in China. Net sales for the Ivanka Trump collection increased by $17.9 million during the year that ended this Jan. 31, G-III reported, despite multiple boycotts.
Trump’s Chinese tariffs are such hypocrisy. He just DEMANDED (via tweet) that U.S. businesses find alternatives to China, all the while he and his daughter produce their ready-to-wear garbage there.
Sometimes a meme sums it all up just perfectly.
