Legendary drag superstars Monet Xchange and Lady Bunny post their new podcast, Ebony & Irony, each Friday.
From their press release:
Even a pandemic can’t stop drag stars Monet Xchange and Lady Bunny from spreading their own infectious brand of humor. These New Yorkers are tucked and loaded to dissect the latest entertainment news, scandals, and a few issues to boot. The pair don’t always agree, which make for interesting discussions, as do their weekly guests and listener call-ins via the Stereo app. Listeners have already been grooving to their new theme song, which Bunny wrote and recorded.
And of course, the two co-hosts throw more shade than a solar eclipse.
“Ebony and Irony is totally unscripted. We tried some scripted segments, but Bunny can’t read.”
“Working with Monet is a rare opportunity. “How often to do I get to say ‘I’m the pretty one?’”
On Instagram, Monet introduced the new podcast with a playful barb: “Bunny is not very long for this earth, so starting this journey with someone who is so haggard and tired may not be the smartest move, but here we are.”
Bunny responded that “I, too, am worried about hitching my wagon to a Drag Race queen whose popularity will fade the longer she’s been off the TV.”
OUCH!
And here’s what you’ll get when you tune in each week:
Episode 1 focuses on #GaysOverCovid and the broader issue of balancing COVID precautions with personal freedoms. Your hosts feast on Armie Hammer, the A-list actor who’s been eaten up by online rumors of cannibalism. Their special guest, Linda Simpson, discusses her brand new book, “The Drag Explosion.” It features Linda’s own photos of the vibrant NYC 80s-90s club scenes which launched RuPaul, Amanda LePore, Kevin Aviance, and many less known but equally fascinating.
Episode 2 turns to Netflix sensation “Bridgerton”, along with each performer’s take on “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.” We also discuss Joe Biden’s new trans HHS secretary Rachel Levine, and more broadly, the impact of inclusion. In light of NY State finally preparing to repeal the 1976 “Walking While Trans” bill which targets loiterers, this Friday’s guest is trans punk icon Jayne County. Jayne is not only revered as a rock ’n’ roll legend, and more recently painter, but she’s also a trans pioneer who experienced the Warhol Days and the Stonewall Rebellion in the 1960s. It’s Jayne’s first podcast ever, and she regales her hosts with jaw-dropping tales of how to be drag or trans and avoid the police when they could pick you up for simply having your hair be long enough to touch your ears. It’s a gentle reminder of how far LGBTQ rights have come.
Episode 3 features a loooong, uncut interview with porn sensation Boomer Banks.
Episode 4 has an info-packed interview from Dr. Darien Sutton, who took time from his busy schedule to discuss the latest guidelines for mask, proper mask use and vaccines. He answered all questions from safer ways to fly to having sex during COVID.
Episode 5 gets gossipy with legendary nightlife columnist, author and bon vivant Michael Musto. La Must offers choice words on the passing of The Supremes’ Mary Wilson and club kid Michael Alig. Money and Bunny discuss the cancellation of Gina Carano and Trump’s impeachment hearing.
Upcoming guests include Margaret Cho and Latrice Royale, the drag duo’s actual moms, and Sophia Lamar, the cuban nightclub sensation who flew to Spain right before COVID hit to film the HBO smash Veneno. So get ready to gag and giggle with a new episode each Friday of Ebony And Ivory!
