Although Andrew O’Hehir rhapsodized on Salon.com that Jared Leto “veers from paranoid arrogance to painful flashes of reality” as Mark David Chapman in Jarrett Schaefer’s Chapter 27, the film came away from Sundance without a distributor. Now 2,000 people have signed a petition-in-progress swearing not to see the film about the fatty’s assassination of John Lennon, which also features Lindsay Lohan, lest it make Chapman as famous as he hoped to become by his act. “Lindsay was my friend,” says Sean Lennon. “I don’t want to hurt her feelings by talking about it in public, but I think it’s a bit of a tacky idea.” Was my friend? Exec producer John Flock (who’s betting on Leto being nominated for an Oscar) says it’s “nonsense. The people who are calling for a boycott more likely than not haven’t seen it. It’s not a sympathetic portrayal. [Ed note: Spoiler alert] He comes off as a monster in the end.” Ah, so it’s a surprise ending. “Distributors are circling,” he says. Also, we hear, buzzards.
