The Brian Grazer guest-edited edition of the Sunday LA Times‘ op-ed section, Current, was in fact pulled today, as threatened, replaced by a regular, apparently unedited one. A “note to readers” appeared in the lower left hand corner of its front page, saying, “The Times announced last week that Brian Grazer, a screenwriter and producer, would be the ‘guest editor’ of today’s Current. On Thursday, however, the newspaper decided to stop production of the section because of the appearance of a conflict of interest within The Times. For more information, go to latimes.com/current.” Which we did, and found this Statement from the Publisher, David Hiller, explaining what happened, exonerating Grazer from any wrong doing, and announcing Current editor Andrés Martinez’s resignation. But in section one of the Calendar, at the bottom of the Sunday TV listings page, is a banner ad promoting Current with Grazer’s mug under the heading “Imagine: editor for a day.” Oops.
