Of course it’s no coincidence that Teri Hatcher is on Oprah and everywhere fine newzak is aired airing the sordid details of her early abuse from a male relative and aborted romance with Ryan Seacrest just as her anecdotal book, Burnt Toast, hits the shelves ready for autographing. You can almost hear her impatiently clicking her Bic over the sound of sobbing audiences. Fine. Not unexpected. But we still had enough respect left for print journalism that we find the cross-promotional product-placement a bit too much in Time magazine’s Time 100 Special Issue, in which 100 famous people perform a kind of masturbatory mashup interviewing one other. Tom Cruise, for example, was allowed to write about JJ Abrams, who just happens to be the director of Tom’s about-to-open Mission: Impossible III, and Robert Altman got to rave about Meryl Streep, who just happens to star in his screen version of A Prairie Home Companion. But we’re sure no one noticed until the mag went to press and it was too late. We’re just saying.
