German actor Daniel Brühl will star as late fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld in Kaiser Karl, the upcoming Disney+ original series.
Brühl is in the Oscar-nominated, All Quiet on the Western Front, starred in Captain America: Civil War and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
According to Variety, the 6-part series will detail the rise of Lagerfeld through the world of 70s Parisian high fashion. In ’72, when Yves Saint Laurent ruled, a 38-year-old Karl Lagerfeld aspired to become the most famous French fashion designer.
Lagerfeld went on to become a fashion heavyweight that ruled himself for more than 40 years, as the head designer and creative director of Chanel, Fendi, as well his own label. The series will explore the rivalry between Lagerfeld and YSL’s partner Pierre Berge, as well as his love story with Jacques de Bascher.
Lagerfeld knew EVERYONE in the fashion world for 5 decades and was not shy with his opinions. There’s plenty of juicy hot-goss with all the fashion clan rivalries, ego battles, epic decadence, partying and tragic gay love affairs to fill 6 episodes.
Kaiser Karl is currently shooting in France, Monaco and Italy.
