At the Beauty and the Beast premiere, legendary composer Alan Menken told Gay Times magazine that his fantasy casting for the upcoming The Little Mermaid live action remake would be none other than Harvey Fierstein.
“I’ve wanted Harvey,” he giggles when we ask who he’d like to see play delicious baddie Ursula – a role usually played by a female. “I’ve wanted Harvey Fierstein to play Ursula. I would kill for that!”
Harvey quickly responded on Facebook, saying:
Writing via his Facebook page, “Oh, Alan, no need to kill anyone. Your wish is my command. As for the rest of you… Oh, you poor unfortunate souls!!!!”
And as wonderful as Harvey would no doubt be, it’s a shame that he seems to have a monopoly on drag roles. There are literally HUNDREDS of queens I could name off the top of my head who would be BEYOND brilliant in the role of Ursula.
1 Jackie Beat
2. Vickie Vox
3. Eureka
4. Ginger Minj
5. Latrice Royale
6. TS Madison
7. Darrien Lake
8. Melissa McCarthy (not TECHNICALLY a drag queen I know, but draggish enough)
9. Danny Franzese (again, not a drag queen, but CAN YOU IMAGINE?)
10. Bianca Del Rio (She’s got the voice!)
Come on, Harvey, step aside and give someone else a chance!
