The classic Tom Hanks/Darryl Hannah mermaid flick Splash is getting a gender-flipped remake. In the new version, Channing Tatum plays a hot merman who learns about life and love on the surface world from Jillian Bell (of 22 Jump Street and Workaholics fame).
Says Deadline:
Imagine’s Ron Howard and Brian Grazer will produce along with Channing Tatum and Free Association’s Reid Carolin and Peter Kieran. Imagine’s Anna Culp will be executive producer. There might be some inevitable groaning about Hollywood running out of fresh ideas, but the twist on this fish tale sounds like a smart way of breathing life into a movie that came out 32 years ago and has a story strong enough to be reintroduced to a new audience.
Channing Tatum as a shirtless half-man/half-fish? I’m totally there. And maybe he can be decked out in some of those super-fab mermaid crowns that are ALL THE RAGE.
