Netflix just canceled Uncoupled.
Just six months after the its first season debuted, yesterday the streaming giant announced that Uncoupled wouldn’t be getting a second outing.
Variety reported that the short-lived series only made it into the Netflix Top 10 chart for one week after its release, peaking at number six.
Neil Patrick Harris played a NYC real estate agent dealing with the surprise breakup of his 17-year relationship with his partner played by Tuc Watkins.
In July Harris said at the show had,
A lot of content that is shown of gay men in their mid-40s is often that they’re no longer vital or sexy. The joke is that they’re has-beens and the butts of the jokes – even though we’re not all bottoms.
I think being able to have these people be real people that are still kind of sexy in their own way is a bit unique.”
The show was created by Darren Star and Jeffrey Richman and starred Tisha Campbell, Marcia Gay Harden and Brooks Ashmanskas.
With a trans lead character voiced by trans actor Zack Barack, plus MJ Rodriguez and Coco Peru, the animated horror-comedy Dead End: Paranormal was also cancelled after just two seasons.
Other queer-themed Netflix series to get the chop in the last few months;
- 1899 also got axed after one season
- Warrior Nun, canceled
- Fate: The Winx Saga, canceled
- Lesbian vampire drama First Kill, got a stake to heart
