The Twitter thread below is pretty self-explanatory: BuzzFeed’s Kate Aurthur details a stroke/heart surgery/ovarian cancer health crisis that has plagued her for the last year, and how the current health care debate is fucking with her sanity. Others chime in with their own health issues, and the role that Obamacare has played in their recovery. The takeaway is simple: We are all healthy until we aren’t, and subsidizing other’s health care is in our own best interest. And beyond that: It’s just what decent, civilized people do. So WHY ARE WE EVEN STILL DISCUSSING THIS
I was a healthy person subsidizing the sick until I had a stroke, had to have OPEN HEART SURGERY, and then found out I had OVARIAN CANCER. https://t.co/SWr5W0B5XH

It’s a long story, obviously, that dates back to a doctor who didn’t fucking listen to me. Like so many of these stories do. But!

After I had the stroke, I ended up at Cedars, which is a great hospital. They figured out what was happening, all related to the tumor…

I had to have two surgeries, and then chemo during the fall. I was in remission for about 10 seconds, then I recurred.

Luckily, my amazing gyne-onc is doing a clinical trial that is chemo + immunotherapy for ovarian cancer patients. I finished chemo in July.

I will continue the immunotherapy for as long as it works, and right now, I’m stable. That’s all! I will write about this at some point!

For now, just a Twitter thread-scream to say that the government trying to further destroy healthcare when you’re sick IS FUCKING STRESSFUL.

SO PLEASE STOP DOING IT. Thank you for your well-wishes, and if I don’t respond to yours, THANK YOU. (I didn’t mean to do this!) The End.
