Jo Cox, a member of British Parliament and LGBT ally, died from injuries after being stabbed and shot in northern England this morning,
The Manchester Evening News reports that Cox’s killer shouted, “Britain first!” as he attacked her. Cox was in favor of Britain remaining in the EU ahead of the upcoming “Brexit” vote.
Her death has caused a deep shock across Britain and the suspension of campaigning for next week’s referendum on the country’s EU membership.

Cox, a 41-year-old lawmaker for the opposition Labor Party, was attacked as she prepared to hold a meeting with constituents in Birstall near Leeds. West Yorkshire Police said a 52-year-old man had been arrested by armed police.
