WOW London read this article a few months ago, and ignored it entirely. It explained how the biggest celebrities now dont do restaurants they have their own private chefs. WOW London preferred posh restaurants. Until now.
Last night I experienced the private chef phenomenon for myself. And it put any restaurant experience to shame.
Heres the deal when you are really, really, REALLY rich a la Madonna or Bill Gates going to restaurants is pass. Who needs to deal with paparazzi, other customers and plates that other people have eaten from? You simply have the best chef come to you, in the privacy and luxury of your own home. Look at it this way did the Queen ever eat out? Of course not. And it turns out that the worlds VERY best chefs have sussed this and dont actually work in restaurants, preferring to cater for very few, very wealthy private clients. It suits everyone concerned.
So, back to last night. A “friend” invited me to a dinner party where one of these chefs was doing his stuff a guy called Kevin Fine. South African, trained in Paris, Cordon Bleu all the way. Turns out hes the best of the best a client list that he refused to divulge no matter how many times I asked (although the hostess confided that it included European Royalty and more than a handful of the Hollywood-A-list-in-London lot). The food was better than anything Ive ever tasted truffles, caviar, the whole bit, served with wines older than me.
But heres what really got me everyone at the table asked for chef Fines contact details, and nobody got it. It turns out that these telephone numbers are closely guarded and traded by every salon Queen if you want food this good, you gotta be in her inner circle. Period. Its the new upper class currency.
So heres me ruined for every restaurant, and without the magic number. Not that I could afford him anyway. Sigh. Ill never be able to look a microwave meal in the face again.
