Your message is excluding people. You’re excluding me, you’re excluding people that look like me, you’re excluding Americans that maybe support you.Megan Rapinoe
After a ticker tape parade up Broadway, The U.S. Women’s Soccer Team were given the keys to the city in a moving ceremony at New York City’s City Hall in front of a crowd of more than 4,000, that included a drum performance, the national anthem, the presentation of colors, introductions by gay journalist Robin Roberts, and speeches by Mayor Bill de Blasio and his wife.
The mighty gay player Megan Rapinoe let loose during the ceremony carried live on television with the crowd cheering:
New York City, you’re the motherfucking best! We really do appreciate all that it takes to shut down the biggest, best city in the world for the biggest, best team in the world!
In her speech, Rapinoe, the team’s top scorer, gave credit to her teammates, and spoke of the politics of division and equal pay:
This is my charge to everyone: We have to be better; we have to love more and hate less. Listen more and talk less. It is our responsibility to make this world a better place. This group is so resilient, is so tough, has such a sense of humor. There is nothing that can faze this group. We got pink hair and purple hair. We got tattoos and dreadlocks. We got white girls and black girls and everything in between. We got straight girls and gay girls.
Mighty gay athlete Megan Rapinoe has already announced that she’s not going to the ”fucking White House” if U.S. Women American Women’s Soccer team should be invited, and better yet, according to a poll released Tuesday by Public Policy Polling, 42% of registered voters polled prefer Rapinoe over the current president in 2020. Rapinoe won over Fat Donnie’s 41%; a slim margin, but still.
To put in perspective, 46% of the respondents voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016, and 42% for Trump. Women made up 53% of those polled, and men made up 47%.
PPP said of Rapinoe’ numbers:
… they still speak to a broader truth about Trump’s standing – the fact that he polls in the low 40s against any Democrat … shows that electability concerns are overrated. Democrats should feel comfortable voting for the candidates they like the best, not just the ones they think have the best chance of beating Trump.
The firm also said that the support she’s been shown has a real-life lesson: that perceived “electability” might not be so important in the 2020 presidential election, according to an article in USA Today.
Rapinoe’s outstanding performance at the Women’s World Cup on Sunday, brought the USA to victory over the Netherlands 2-0 in Lyon to win their first title, and with it calls on social media for Rapinoe to run for president. But you do know” a U.S. President has to be 35-years-old or older by inauguration day. The youngest person to assume the office was Theodore Roosevelt, who became president a few weeks shy of his 43rd birthday. If Pete Buttigieg were to win in 2020, he will have turned 39 just hours before Inauguration Day 2021.
