Police in Paraguay were shocked to discoverer Brazilian drug lord, Jarvis Chimenes Pavao‘s prison cell. It seems ludicrous to even call it a cell, as it was actually a three-room suite, complete with a conference room, bathroom, library, a full kitchen and a flat screen TV.
If you think these pictures don’t look that luxurious (apparently it didn’t include maid service) remember, THIS IS A PRISON CELL! The library was full of books and DVDs, including one about the life of the infamous drug lord, Pablo Escobar who famously was allowed to design his own prison cell. One inmate questioned said,
“He was the most loved man in this prison.“
Guess so. Any prisoners who wanted to stay Pavoa’s suite had to pay him a one-time fee of $5,000, plus a weekly rate of $600. The suite also had air conditioning, what looks like Ikea furniture, an en-suite bathroom.
An investigation has been launched to find out who allowed the VIP suite to be built, but surely the warden and every guard knew about it. Of course, Pavoa didn’t wear the standard orange jumpsuit, he had a closet full of his own clothes and shoes.
He was due to complete his sentence for money laundering next year, at the end of which he was likely to face extradition to Brazil. Police learned Pavao was planning to break out by blowing a hole in the wall of the prison with explosives, but he has now been to a special unit near the capital Asuncion –without his shoe collection.
